Saturday, in the Park
It's no secret that we love Chicago. When most people picture Chicago they think of the Mag Mile, Grant Park, Navy Pier, The Chicago Theater, or the various (AMAZING) museums. But as we've lived in this city for many years, what we love about Chicago is the small local cafes and restaurants, our bike commutes, the stunning architecture, the corner stores and small businesses, yes- the museums, exploring all of the unique neighborhoods, and just the overall energy and pace of life. The longer we live in this amazing city, the more we forget to play the tourist, so on Saturday we decided to spend some time in Millennium Park enjoying the fall colors in one of the places where they can be seen in the greatest concentration ;) It was a beautiful day and a perfect spot to grab some pictures of the fall staples we wanted to share with you.
As we posted on Instagram, we wanted highlight a few go-to fall pieces we've been wearing lately. Both of us love keeping up with current trends and looking sharp... but we also work downtown. So even though we love to express our personal style on the weekends, we're pretty practical about how much we're willing to invest in our "weekend wardrobes". What we've found works well for us and lets us incorporate new trends without breaking the bank is having a couple of staples items that can be totally transformed by pairing them with affordable, trendy pieces. For me, one of the absolute pillars of my wardrobe this fall is this pair of distressed, black Old Navy jeans.
OLD NAVY! I know! I had done the shopping equivalent of "friend-zoning" Old Navy a few years ago. Then one day I needed to pick up some athletic attire, and I knew they had some reasonably priced stuff. Since there's a store close to my office I ran over after work and to my surprise I came away with a handful of items I find myself wearing again and again. And again. I can't speak highly enough about how much I love these jeans. At $35 the price point is great for a good quality pair that can be worn casually with combat boots, a graphic tee and a leather jacket for a slightly edgy weekend look, but can also work great with a pair of pumps, an oversized blush tone sweater and some delicate jewelry for a more sophisticated look.
Another thing we love to do is go ALL OUT for a theme. This outfit is no exception. Since there's a bit of edge to the outfit, I kept the accessories bold, contemporary, and geometric in black and gold.
After walking around Millennium Park for a bit, we were reminded of why we don't go there on Saturdays... that reason is called Tourists. Tourists are wonderful people... who all flock to the same 3 attractions in this city and can't seem to keep walking as they gaze upon said attractions. Now, it's very hard to be truly mad at a well-intentioned tourist... but it is quite easy to be frustrated by them!! So we quickly gravitated to the one spot in the park that seemed to be a bit of a haven from the crowds: the Lurie Gardens. If you're ever in the city, check these beautiful gardens out! There are gorgeous views of the fall colors with the skyline in the background, but there is a calm atmosphere that allows you to really take it all in.
Daniel is a pretty handsome guy... so I apologize that I can't keep my hands off ;) Plus... his sweater is super soft! Daniel grabbed this at H&M recently as well as the olive colored joggers pictured here. These joggers are awesome. Comfortable, affordable, and as pictured here with a black sweater and these Aldo high tops they look casual yet sharp.
Confession: Our weeks kind of sucked. Work kicked our butts. At 6:00 pm on Friday we were still feeling tired and like our to-do lists were still a mile long. So this Saturday was just what we needed... time to relax, eat good food (if you haven't gone to The Publican... you MUST go ...just do it) and spend time at home. How beautiful are the streets of our gorgeous West Town, btw (pictured below)?? West side is the best side... just saying. We hope you've all had a blessed weekend, time to relax and fellowship, and that you go into your weeks feeling ready to go forth and work hard.
Much Love from Chicago,
Daniel & Jennifer
